Where Consciousness Lives

Is a question I sometimes hear asked
My big toe replied, "It’s right here in ME"
And that had me starting a laugh!
I thought of the night when I tripped on the chair
My toe had, I thought, split in half.
Well, it’s true you have feelings that can’t be denied
But are You where my consciousness hides?

Then my stomach spoke up
Well, it’s here, honey bunch!!!
As I’ve told you so often when you dane to skip lunch
I feel with emotion and passion it’s true
and the worries too clearly are mine,
How you view yourself now and react with the world
I must monitor all the time.
Your consciousness definitely sits here in me

Then my kidneys sang out with a fearful shout
Don’t tax me, sweetheart, ‘cause it’s true
I’m the home where your consciousness lives, indeed
When you’re overloading and excessing me
it’s more than I need to be fearful about.

The liver shouted with a green ssshushing sound
"No one listens to me at all!"
I could cleanse and transform all that anger you feel
Till compassion and caring abound
But you think I’m too plain to be part of the game
And know nothing of what it’s about.

Then a whisper was heard from somewhere on my back
As the shoulder blades dared to speak up
"You tuck all your self doubts right here under me
Thinking no one will ever know
What secrets I hide like some treasure stored
Till the day of release when I’m freed."

Oh dear, spoke the heart so impatiently..
Have you all just forgot about Me?
Why, it’s here that everything radiates out.
All the colors and thoughts within thee.
When your joy reaches frenzie it’s me has to cope
And maintain stability

Then the tiniest cell whispered with a great swell
Well, each of us holds in our space
The knowledge of all that exists in the life
And the wisdom of what it’s about.
Each has its own assigned task to complete and
its reason for joining the group
Our memories are strong and eternally long
We are each one complete universe.

Now the mind was listening to all these debates
With a sly and smug little grin
Because it was so sure all the while
That it was the place where my consciousness lives.
But as it remembered the feelings it felt
With each organ and neuron within
It began to wonder if maybe it’s true
That there’s consciousness everywhere.
Acknowledging all as a part of the whole
Was a concept it hardly dared.

Then the mind of consciousness opened its heart
With a warm and loving wave
You’re all of you right in your knowingness
I’m everywhere here within all
No one’s alone in their experience
We are one vast eternal whole.
